Snoop Dogg Aims to Raise $20K Via Crowdfunding Site for Des Moines Footballers

Snoop Dogg's First India Tour

Snoop Dogg visited India for the first time, performing in the cities of Pune and Delhi. Having previously guest-rapped on the title track of 2008 Bollywood hit Singh Is Kinng, the flamboyant artist enthralled fans with a live rendition of the track, donning a traditional Indian outfit. But Snoop Dogg also was put on the spot when, at his Mumbai press conference, he dodged questions about his views on the portrayal of women in music and the horrific Delhi gang-rape incident.

The rapper has a long commitment to youth football leagues in California

Snoop Dogg's support of youth football now stretches all the way to Des Moines, IA.

The rapper launched a campaign last week on crowdfunding site Tilt to raise money for the Inner City Urban Development youth football league in the capital city. The target goal of $20,000 is to buy new helmets and equipment for all 200 players in the league. As of Tuesday, more than $6,000 had been raised — $5,000 of which came from Snoop's own pocket.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Snoop said helping ICUD "feels right."

"I know the money raised by this Tilt campaign will provide these Des Moines youth with essential tools for success," Snoop said. "I've seen with my own eyes how these programs can change lives. They go beyond the field; it teaches kids skills for life."

Close to 10 years ago, Snoop launched the Snoop Youth Football League in L.A. as a way to foster a positive environment in local communities through physical activity and recreational sports. Snoop has served as both a coach and mentor in the league, which is said to have helped thousands of local boys and girls.

Former Iowa State representative Wayne Ford, who founded an inner city resource in Des Moines called Urban Dreams, contacted Snoop to let him know of ICUD's needs for new equipment. Local news outlet KCCI also covered the story in a recent segment
