‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ Wins European Parliament’s LUX Prize

Robert Guediguian’s drama premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard sidebar.

COLOGNE, Germany - Robert Guediguian’s The Snows of Kilimanjaro has won the European Parliament’s LUX Prize for European film of the year.

The drama, which follows how an aging couple in Marseilles deal with the effects of a robbery, beat out Greek feature Attenberg from Athina Rachel Tsangari and Play from Sweden’s Ruben Ostlund. Kilimanjaro, which premiered in Cannes in the Un Certain Regard sidebar, bows across France this weekend.

The European Parliament hands out the LUX every year to a film that “contributes to the public debate on Europe.” The winner is voted on by members of the European Parliament.
