BERLIN -- The rivalry between German and English soccer is the stuff of legends, and any matchup is a guaranteed ratings winner.

So it was that Wednesday night's friendly game in Berlin easily won the ratings shoot-out in both territories.

Just under 11 million, or a 36.5 share, tuned in to ZDF to watch England beat the home team 2-1. ITV1's live coverage of the match garnered an average 7.9 million viewers, a 34 share.

The game scored with all demographics, including the prized younger crowd.

Some 20% of ITV viewers were between 16 and 34 years of age, and ZDF's broadcast grabbed a 31 share among 14- to 49-year-olds.
