Sofia Vergara Wants You to Buy Underwear for a Cause
EBY is a subscription-based startup designed to empower women.
As one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, Sofia Vergara is continuing to grow her empire with her latest venture — and it's for a good cause.
The Modern Family star is teaming up her business partner, Renata M. Black, to launch a subscription-based underwear company called EBY that's all about giving back. The service, which delivers undergarments monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly depending on a customer's preference, will donate 10 percent of its sales to the Seven Bar Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides micro-financing to underprivileged women looking to start or grow their small business.
"When Sofia and I met it was clear that EBY was an extension of her — powerful and provocative," said Black, who co-founded the Seven Bar Foundation. "Sofia has a deep appreciation of what it takes to become a successful woman in business, and it was only natural she would create this entry point for other women."
According to a press release, loan sizes range from $80 in India for a fish stand to $2,600 in the U.S. for an Etsy start-up. Once a woman is able to grow her business, those funds are then passed along to another woman to start her company.
"I have had the luxury of being able to grow my ideas into successful business ventures over the past 10 years. I want to be able to pass that on to other women in need," Vergara said in a statement. "I want to be able to provide women with the tools to start their own business as an exit out of poverty. EBY does that with its micro-financing model. There's nothing sexier than being your own boss."
The EBY underwear, described as having a "patented flocking technology that prevents sliding and riding," comes in several styles, including a thong, brief, g-string, bikini and boyshort. The pricing has yet to be revealed.
Starting Sept. 25, EBY will be available for purchase on join-eby.com.
