Sony BMG, Brainpool ink for home vid

MUNICH -- Sony BMG Music Entertainment has signed an exclusive deal with Cologne-based TV production house Brainpool for DVD distribution rights to Brainpool's slate of comedy series.

Brainpool's cult comedy hits -- including the "Office" adaptation "Stromberg," the crime comedy "Dr. Psycho" and long-running late-night show "TV Total" -- have proved to be strong home entertainment performers.

Sony BMG previously handled distribution for "Stromberg" and "TV Total," both DVD best-sellers in Germany.

For Sony BMG, the Brainpool deal is part of a larger strategy to increase the importance of its DVD business. By 2009, the music label hopes to earn 30% of its revenue from nontraditional sources like DVDs.
