Sony BMG U.K. relaunches Epic
EmptyLONDON -- The Epic Label is getting a new lease on life in Britain.
With immediate effect, Sony BMG Entertainment U.K. and Ireland has relaunched the label, which will sit alongside the major's current frontline music companies, RCA and Columbia Label Groups. Sony Music operated the label until its merger with BMG in 2004.
Nick Raphael has been appointed managing director of Epic Label, reporting to Ged Doherty, chairman and CEO of Sony BMG Music U.K. and Ireland affiliate.
Until now, Raphael, a company veteran who has served with Sony Music or BMG for more than 10 years, has been managing director of the group's White Rabbit label.
"This is an important move for the company," Doherty said in a statement issued today. "It gives us another significant destination for artists who want to sign to us by giving them the opportunity to sign to a label with huge history and resonance within the industry."
The Epic Label will combine the roster of White Rabbit, including Lemar, Mylo and Imogen Heap, plus new signings such as Scouting for Girls and Go Audio.
The label will also gather the major's U.K. Red Ink labels and their artists, including City Rockers/Sunshine Underground, Melodic/the Harrisons and Full Time Hobby/The Checks.
"I've been very happy with the progress of the Columbia and RCA labels since we brought them back last year," Doherty added, "and we need to expand our A&R capability still further to help us grow the company in line with our overall plans."
