Sony, BSkyB link on content via portable PSPs

It might not be the obvious choice for catching up on missed episodes of "Desperate Housewives" or Premier League soccer matches, but U.K. users now can get their sports, movies and TV series via Sony's PlayStation Portable.

In a bid to make portable VOD content a reality, a joint venture between Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and pay TV giant British Sky Broadcasting dubbed Go!View will allow users to download content from the BBC, Disney-ABC, Sky Sports, National Geographic and Sony International Television in a range of genre packs beginning at £5 ($10) per month.

Movies will be available from about £2.50 ($5) per download but initially will be free as part of a trial.

The Go!View product is limited to the U.K., but similar products likely will be rolled out in other territories.

In January, Sony Computer Entertainment America launched a joint-venture partnership with MTV to offer such shows as "Beavis and Butt-head" and "Jackass" to PSP users in the U.S. (partialdiff)
