Sony Ent. TV tops Promax India awards


NEW DELHI -- Sony Entertainment Television bagged 19 trophies at the 2007 Promax IBDA India Awards for television promos Wednesday evening in Mumbai. News Corp.'s STAR India finished second with nine wins.

SET's wins came primarily from channel SET SAB, which received Gold awards for best promos for drama, comedy and entertainment as well as the launch campaign for its comedy series "Twinkle Beauty Parlor."

STAR took five Golds for best interactive promo ("Now or Never" on music outlet Channel V), program packaging (for Channel V's countdown show "Zabardast Hits"), collateral material, movie promo (for India's Oscar entry this year, "Rang De Basanti") and on-air branding.

National Geographic won the best documentary promo prize for "H-Factor," which focuses on health issues.

MTV Networks India won a total of six promo awards, including best sound design and a special Rocket Award honoring upcoming creative talent, which went to MTV's creative team member K. M. Ayappa.

Other winners included the Walt Disney Co. of India with four awards, including for best public service announcement, while Turner Entertainment Networks Asia took one Gold nod for its Cartoon Network show "Toonami: Pokemon (Peek A Choo)."

The Promax IBDA Awards were the culmination of a two-day confab featuring case studies and presentations by industry professionals, who examined various issues related to promotions and brand building.
