The former top business affairs executive will become COO of the Viacom-owned studio.

After exiting as the head of Sony Pictures' business affairs group just weeks ago, Andrew Gumpert has landed at Paramount as the studio's COO. Long-standing COO Frederick Huntsberry will depart Paramount after 10 years at the studio.

Gumpert, one of the most respected dealmakers in Hollywood, was an 11-year Sony veteran, most recently serving as the studio's president of worldwide business affairs and operations.

Gumpert, who was honored in 2015 with The Hollywood Reporter's Raising the Bar Award at its annual Power Lawyers event, began his dealmaking career at the entertainment law firm Hill Wynne Troop before joining Sony in a legal affairs job. He then did a seven-year stint at Miramax during the Harvey Weinstein heyday before returning to Sony in the top business affairs job.

"I could not be more pleased to welcome Andrew to our executive team," Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey said Monday in a statement. "He is one of the most respected executives in our industry, known for his hard work, integrity, steady hand and business acumen. He is the perfect addition to our team and we all look forward to working with him."

As COO of Paramount, Gumpert will lead business affairs as well as home entertainment and television transactional distribution and be responsible for the studio’s primary operating functions, including strategic planning, business development, legal and labor relations, human resources, studio operations and parks and resorts.

"I feel privileged to join Brad and his team,” said Gumpert. “I have known Brad and the leadership of Paramount for most of my career, and couldn’t be more excited to become part of this legendary studio and work alongside such a talented group of executives.”
