The Interview Still 1 - H 2014

The Canadian exhibition giant said 'safety and security is our number one priority'

Canadian exhibition giant Cineplex Entertainment on Wednesday said it will "postpone" the release of Sony's The Interview on its screens to ensure a safe holiday movie-going experience for patrons.

"Cineplex takes seriously its commitment to the freedom of artistic expression, but we want to reassure our guests and staff that their safety and security is our number one priority," said Pat Marshall, vp communications.

Cineplex has 161 theaters and 1,639 screens in its circuit, or around 65 percent of the Canadian market.

"We look forward to a time when this situation is resolved and those responsible are apprehended," Marshall added.
