Hesse will take the slot left by outgoing Bertelsmann CEO Hartmut Ostrowski.

COLOGNE, Germany – More executive shuffling on the board of directors of European broadcasting giant RTL Group, as Thomas Hesse, formerly of Sony Music, takes the spot on RTL’s board left vacant by Hartmut Ostrowski, the outgoing CEO of RTL parent company Bertelsmann. Hesse, who since 2004 was president of Global Digital Business at Sony Music, returned to Bertelsmann last month. Incoming CEO Thomas Rabe takes over the running of Bertelsmann Jan. 1.

Other members of the board of directors include RTL Group CEO Gerhard Zeiler, board of directors chairman Siegfried Luther, evp of corporate controlling and strategy Gunther Gruger, former Luxembourg prime minister Jacques Santer, Nestle CFO James Singh and Martin Taylor, chairman of Swiss agrochemical group Syngenta.

Last week, Bertelsmann added another management layer, creating a group management committee designed to advise Bertelsmann’s executive board on strategy. The new committee adds a bit of gender equality to Bertelsmann’s otherwise male-dominated management, as it includes RTL Deutschland CEO Anke Schaferkordt, Random House U.K. head Gail Rebuck, Annabelle Long, managing director of Bertelsmann’s Asia Investments fund and Bertelsmann corporate communications head Karin Schlautmann. Also on the group management commiette are Nicolas de Tavernost, chairman French broadcaster Group M6, Fernando Carro, CEO of Bertelsmann’s club and direct marketing businesses and Immanuel Hermreck, corporate HR chief.
