The record label says it plans to release nearly 40 shows this year.

Sony Music has tapped director Adam McKay, actor David Tennant and several other personalities for podcasts as it looks to build out its audio offerings.

The record label revealed Wednesday during the IAB Podcast Upfronts that it plans to release nearly 40 new shows this year. Among them are two projects from McKay, including one that will look at the historical and political forces that defined basketball in the 1980s and another with YouTube creator Ari Cagan. Meanwhile, Tracy Clayton and Akoto Ofori-Atta will host music show My 90s Playlist, and NFL sideline reporter Lindsay Czarniak will host a music and sports podcast that’s set to debut in 2021.

“At Sony Music, we’ve always equipped our artists with the tools and market expertise they need to thrive,” Sony senior vp podcast business development and operations Emily Rasekh said in a statement. “We bring that same artist-centric, collaborative spirit to podcasting. We’re leveraging our status as a global company to amplify voices from around the world to the widest audiences possible.”

Sony also announced that it has teamed with Tennant to bring back David Tennant Does a Podcast for a new season with guests including Jim Parsons, Judi Dench, Stacey Abrams and Dan Levy.

Other Sony divisions, including Sony Interactive Entertainment, are also making podcasts with the record label.
