Sony Pics Asia inks Mega deal

Will distribute AXN, Animax Korea

HONG KONG -- Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks Asia on Wednesday announced a deal with Korea Telecom's IPTV platform Mega TV to distribute its AXN and Animax Korea channels beginning Monday.

Animax Korea, the Japanese animation channel, was a joint venture established in July 2006 between Korea's SkyLife and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

AXN, which broadcasts U.S. shows including "CSI" and "24" as well as original productions such as "Amazing Race Asia," has been distributed by the SkyLife direct-to-home platform in Korea since July 2007.

Launched in November 2007, Mega TV now has 800,000 subscribers.
