Sony Pictures has acquired Studio 8’s upcoming family comedy Adulting, now in development.

The screenplay comes from Chris Hazzard and Michael Fontana, who penned Lionsgate’s Zachary Levi and Cole Sprouse musical comedy Undercover from Mandeville Films.

Studio 8's Robinov, John Graham and Guy Danella will produce Adulting, which is billed as a coming-of-age story based on themes of marriage, divorce and parenting through the lens of adolescence. There's no word on the storyline or director attached to the project.

Adulting is a fresh, inventive twist on the classic romantic comedy made for big laughs and possibly some tears. We're thrilled to partner once again with Sony and look forward to sharing this film with audiences,” Studio 8 CEO Robinov said in a statement.

Writers Hazzard and Fontana also adapted the View-Master toy into a feature for Mattel Films, and adapted the novel Ex-Mas for Amazon Studios, with Alloy Entertainment producing.
