Sony seeks to conquer Russian market

Head Michael Schlicht outlines ambitions

MOSCOW -- Sony Pictures Entertainment aims to achieve a dominant market position in Russia within two to three years, Michael Schlicht, head of the company's Russian office, appointed to that position earlier this year, said Monday in an interview to the Russian business newspaper RBC Daily.

"To substantially increase the market share, turnover and profits from theatrical distribution and DVD sales and make a sufficient number of Russian films to make that business profitable," are Sony's Russian office's main tasks, according to Schlicht, who was previously head of 20th Century Fox CIS.
