Sony shoots to the 'Moon'

Sam Rockwell stars in the sci-fi thriller

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up all worldwide English-speaking distribution territories for Liberty Films' sci-fi thriller "Moon," starring Sam Rockwell.

The film, which takes place on a moon base, marks the directorial debut of Duncan Jones, who wrote the story. Nathan Parker did the adaptation for the screenplay. Stuart Fenegan, Nicky Moss and Trudie Styler are producing.

" 'Moon' is a compelling and smart film that represents the sort of quality product that is key to SPWAG's business strategy," senior vp Lara Thompson said.

Last week, SPWAG picked up U.S. distribution rights to Lakeshore Entertainment's Penelope Cruz starrer "Elegy" in a deal with Samuel Goldwyn Films and Netflix's Red Envelope Entertainment.
