Sony TV India to bow 'Power of 10'

Latest in a string of imported formats

NEW DELHI -- India's growing appetite for imported game show formats will be fed Friday when Sony Entertainment Television bows an Indian version of CBS' game show "Power of 10" on the network's flagship Hindi entertainment channel SET.

"Das Ka Dum" is hosted by Bollywood star Salman Khan and produced by Mumbai-based game show production house Synergy Adlabs.

The first season will span 30 episodes offering a prize of $2.3 million (100 million rupees) to the contestant bets able to answer five questions correctly. Each contestant starts with $238 (10,000 rupees) and each correct answer increases his holdings by a multiple of 10. Correct answers are determined by an India-wide opinion poll.

Also popular on Indian TV is a local version of "Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader," hosted by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan on Star India’s Hindi entertainment channel Star Plus.

In July Viacom 18 plans to launch its Hindi entertainment channel Colors with an Indian version of “Fear Factor” hosted by leading star Akshay Kumar.
