Sony ups int'l vet Ralph Alexander
20-year company exec will oversee operations, distrib'nRalph Alexander has been promoted to senior executive vp international operations and distribution at Sony Pictures Releasing International.
Based in Los Angeles, Alexander will oversee SPRI's 23 managing directors as well as the general operations and administration of territory offices. He also will work with SPRI's licensees and joint-venture partners Disney and Warner Bros.
Beginning his career a management trainee in Chile for United Artists, Alexander went on to work as an East Africa representative for Columbia, Buena Vista International, United International Pictures and Warners, based in Nairobi, Kenya. He also was GM of the Warners-Columbia joint venture in Belgium and was BVI's London-based European theatrical sales manager.
Alexander joined Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International, SPRI's predecessor, in 1987 as managing director for the U.K. A year later, he was named director of sales and distribution, relocating to the home office. He was promoted to vp in 1990 and named senior vp sales and distribution in 1995. Since 1999, he had been exec vp international distribution.
"For more than 20 years, Ralph has served all over the world on behalf of SPRI," said SPRI president Mark Zucker, who announced the promotion with Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony Pictures Releasing. "His intimate knowledge of our global operations and his depth of experience with our managers all over the world make him uniquely qualified to take on this dynamic role."
