Sony ups Jim Amos

Veteran to head the company's domestic distribution

Jim Amos has been promoted to president of Sony Pictures Releasing.

Previously the releasing arm's Eastern division manager and senior vp distribution, Amos will report to Sony worldwide distribution president Rory Bruer. His promotion follows Bruer's recent ascension from the same post.

In his new role, Amos will oversee domestic distribution for Sony. Upcoming titles include the Tom Hanks starrer "Angels & Demons," set to kick off the distributor's summer slate when it unspools May 15.

"Jim is a 25-year veteran of the studio, and I'm thrilled to be recognizing his extraordinary commitment and service to the studio with this well-deserved promotion," Bruer said. "His strong relationships with the exhibition community and many years of leadership managing our Eastern operations make him the perfect choice as my successor."

Amos joined Columbia Pictures in 1984 as a sales trainee in Boston. Subsequent moves were capped by a promotion to Eastern district manager in 1989, and he was upped to senior vp in 1994.
