Sony's Legacy Names Syd Schwartz VP Digital Marketing

Tech vet comes to the label from Linchpin Digital, the marketing and strategy firm he founded, as well as stints at the Capitol, Virgin and Wind-up labels.

Syd Schwartz has been named vice president of digital marketing for Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, by evp marketing Lyn Koppe. Schwartz is based in New York and will report to Koppe.

As a new senior member of the Legacy marketing team, Schwartz will oversee the label's digital marketing efforts, working closely with senior staff and the department in conceiving and developing digital campaigns for Legacy artists.

He will manage and oversee the digital marketing team across social media and customer relationship management; digital technology, and digital marketing/outreach.

Syd Schwartz comes to Legacy from Linchpin Digital, the marketing and strategy firm he founded in 2010, building on a 20-year career in creating digital marketing for some of the world’s best-known entertainment brands. Linchpin Digital clients included record labels, artist management firms, technology companies and artists.  

Schwartz launched Linchpin following eight years in executive digital marketing positions at EMI Music (including the Capitol and Virgin labels), where he was responsible for online presence and digital marketing campaigns for a diverse roster of artists, including the Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Gorillaz and Katy Perry.

Prior to EMI, Schwartz spent nearly a decade at independent label Wind-up Records where he created groundbreaking online campaigns for multi-platinum artists Creed and Evanescence.

Schwartz is actively involved in the Mockingbird Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to generating funding in support of music education for children.
