Spain reduces pubcaster's ad time

TVE ads to be cut to nine minutes per hour

MADRID -- The Spanish government will reduce the acceptable level of advertising on pubcaster Television Espanola from the present 11 minutes per hour to nine minutes in 2010, via a gradual annual decrease.

Spain's private channels have increased pressure on the government over the past year to decrease TVE's competitive role with the national commercial channels.

Uteca, the association that represents the private channels, said Wednesday that television advertising revenue was down 3% in the first quarter.
