Spain's TLA ready to serve 'Chef's Special'

Picks up rights to comedy for four territories

MADRID -- TLA Releasing has acquired all rights for the U.S., Canada, England and Ireland to Spanish comedy "Chef's Special," Madrid-based sales agency Imagina said Friday.

The film was one of the hot Spanish titles at Cannes' Marche du Film, where it also was picked up by Mexico's Cine, Video & TV, We & Co. for French-speaking Europe, Ringford/Alfa Films for Argentina, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay, and Khan Entertainment for Taiwan.

After six weeks in theaters, "Chef's Special" has earned about €4 million ($6.2million) at the Spanish boxoffice with more than 700,000 ticket sales.

Produced by Antena 3 TV and Canguro Prod. and directed by Ignacio Garcia Velilla, "Chef's Special" stars Javier Camara as a gay chef striving for a Michelin star rating while balancing fatherhood and Spanish comedian Fernando Tejero as his eccentric sidekick.
