Spanish publisher, ani house team

MADRID -- Spain's leading magazine publisher, RBA, and the nation's top animation producer, BRB, announced Thursday that they have joined forces in a new audiovisual production house called Siglo Actual.

The new company, a 50-50 joint venture, will focus on thematic television content linked with various RBA magazines dealing with decoration, gossip and discovery.

The move follows a newly declared strategy on the part of RBA -- publisher of the Spanish version of National Geographic -- to enter film and television content production.

The family-owned company recently set up RBA Audiovisual Content, a division designed to target its magazines' special-interest audiences with film and TV content. RBA posted revenues of €345 million ($445 million) in 2005 and a net profit of €24 million ($31 million) the same year.

Siglo Actual has yet to decide on the first project it will produce.
