'Spiderwick,' Vivendi make a game of it


Vivendi Games subsidiary Sierra Entertainment said it will be bringing out a video game based on the "The Spiderwick Chronicles" movie from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films.

The film, to be released in February, and the game are based on the best-selling children's book series by Holly Black that chronicles the magical adventures of three siblings." Spiderwick" is being directed by Mark Waters and stars Freddie Highmore, Mary-Louise Parker, David Strathairn and Joan Plowright.

Sierra said the family-friendly game is being developed by Stormfront Studios for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, DS portable system and PC.

"Fans of the 'Spiderwick' books now not only have the movie to look forward to, but will be able to live in their favorite fantasy world in this adventure filled game," Sierra senior global marketing vp Al Simone said. " 'Spiderwick' video game will authentically re-create the world of Jared, Simon and Mallory Grace, putting gamers in their shoes as they discover a hidden world of fantastical creatures-sprites, ogres, goblins, brownies and more."
