Spirit Awards: James Laxton Wins Best Cinematography for 'Moonlight'

The 32nd annual ceremony took place in Santa Monica on Saturday.

James Laxton took home the award for best cinematography for Moonlight at the 32nd annual Independent Spirit Awards.

He beat out Ava Berkofsky for Free in Deed, Lol Crawley for The Childhood of a Leader,  Zach Kuperstein for The Eyes of My Mother and Robbie Ryan for American Honey. 

Laxton thanked friend and director Barry Jenkins in his acceptance speech.

"There are no words, Barry," he said. "I have none. Thanks for existing on this planet. I appreciate that. Our friendship and our collaboration means the world to me, so thank you."

John Mulaney and Nick Kroll hosted the 32nd annual Independent Spirit Awards, which took place in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica on Saturday afternoon.
