Sport1, Sportfive sign soccer rights deal

COLOGNE, Germany -- Sport1, the online sports portal controlled by German media group EM.TV, has signed a wide-ranging rights deal with France's Sportfive to stream several live sporting events, including qualifications games for the 2008 European soccer championships.

The deal will see Sport1 carry pay-per-view live Internet streaming of several Euro 2008 qualification matches, including those of the French, Portuguese and English national squads.

The deal also includes rights to selected games from the UI and UEFA European club championships as well as qualifications matches for next season's Champions League.

Sport1 is the online portal of EM.TV-controlled German sports channel DSF. It is Germany's largest all-sports site, with an average of 21 million visits monthly, according to Sport1.

Rights group Sportfive was acquired by French group Lagardere late last year for €865 million ($1.15 billion). In addition to rights to the Euro 2008 championships, Sportfive holds the rights to several national clubs across Europe.
