Star launching third regional channel in India

Star Pravah to focus on Maharashtra state

NEW DELHI -- Mumbai-based Star India on Monday announced the launch of the network's third regional channel, Marathi-language Star Pravah, targeting audiences in the western state of Maharashtra.

Star Pravah, which will bow in mid-November, reflects Star's third foray into regional-language entertainment, following Tamil-language channel Vijay and the recently launched Bengali-language channel Star Jalsha.

Rupert Murdoch, CEO of Star India parent News Corp., said during his visit to India in August that the network will invest $100 million during the year to launch six regional channels.
