Starz picks up four Summit titles

First-run films headed to Starz On Demand, Starz Play

Starz Entertainment has acquired four first-run titles from Summit Entertainment.

The list includes the Christina Ricci starrer “Penelope,” the comedy “Sex Drive,” the action drama “Never Back Down,” and the 3D children's film "Fly Me to the Moon," which will be shown on Starz and on-demand in 3D.

Under the deal, Starz will offer the films on multiple distribution platforms, including its linear channels, HD, Starz On Demand and broadband video download service Starz Play.

The films fall outside of the exclusive four-year output deal Summit recently inked with Showtime, which includes as many as 42 Summit movies, including the blockbuster “Twilight” franchise.
