Fry says he's now "fit and well and happy" after undergoing surgery in January.

Stephen Fry has revealed that he has been recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The British comedy icon made the announcement in a video posted to his website, explaining that he in went for tests having initially gone to see his doctor before Christmas for a flu injection.

"For the last 2 months I've been in the throes of a rather unwelcome and unexpected adventure," he wrote on Twitter. "I'm sorry I haven't felt able to talk about it till now, but here I am explaining what has been going on."

In the video, he said that the cancer hadn't appeared to have spread. He underwent a process called a "radical robotic laparoscopic prostatectomy" in the first week of January to remove his prostate and has been recovering since then.

"As far as we know, it's all been got," he said. "For the moment, I'm fit and well and happy."
