'Stiletto,' 'Guitar' snapped up for U.S.

First Look, Lightning Media tale U.S. rights

CANNES -- In a market double header, First Look Studios nabbed North American rights to Nick Vallelonga's thriller "Stiletto," and distributor Lightning Media picked up U.S. rights to Amy Redford's Sundance fest premiere "The Guitar."

"Stiletto," acquired in Cannes from Strategic Film Partners, centers on a female assassin (Stana Katic) for a crime syndicate. Tom Berenger, Michael Biehn, Tom Sizemore also star. SFP's Lawrence Silverstein and Alex Barder negotiated the deal with FLS' Gary Hirsch, with Fabrication Films repping international sales.

"Guitar," the directorial debut of Robert Redford's daughter Amy, was picked up in Cannes from Cinetic Media. The drama stars Saffron Burrows as a dying woman who undergoes a spiritual transformation. Set for release this winter, the film will be one of the first projects from sales outfit Lightning Entertainment Group's newly launched Lightning Media distribution arm.

Lightning's Rich Goldberg and Paul Gardner negotiated the deal with Cinetic and financier Cold Fusion Media Group's CEO Michael Roban.
