The long-gestating production sees the actor recalling family memories and re-enacting classic tales.

John Lithgow is taking on Broadway — alone.

The seasoned stage actor, who is currently Emmy-nominated for his performance in Netflix's The Crown, is set to star on Broadway in the solo show John Lithgow: Stories by Heart.

Lithgow has been developing Stories by Heart since 2008, when he told a story each night in a special repertory presentation at New York's Lincoln Center Theater. The unique, intimate evening sees him recalling family memories, exploring the limits of the actor’s craft and masterfully playing a cast of characters from classic short stories by Ring Lardner and P.G. Wodehouse.

Daniel Sullivan will direct the production from Roundabout Theatre Company and Staci Levine. The limited engagement begins previews Dec. 21 and opens Jan. 11 at the American Airlines Theatre.

Lithgow — a Tony winner for his Broadway debut The Changing Room and the musical Sweet Smell of Success — was last seen on Broadway in 2015, starring in the revival of A Delicate Balance with Glenn Close, Bob Balaban and Martha Plimpton. He next will be seen onscreen in the Universal threequel Pitch Perfect 3 and the Paramount comedy Daddy's Home 2.

Lithgow is repped by UTA and Anonymous Content.
