'Straight Outta Compton' Screenwriter Launches Podcast Inspired by the Movie (Exclusive)
'Straight Outta ... The Podcast' features an interview with Suge Knight's ex-wife.
Straight Outta Compton is the inspiration for a new hip-hop themed podcast.
Hosted by Compton screenwriter and executive producer Leigh Savidge, Straight Outta ... The Podcast will launch Thursday as part of the PodcastOne network. With Compton and its subjects — hip-hop group N.W.A. — as the backdrop, Savidge will use each episode to explore the culture of the hip-hop world through interviews with eyewitnesses to some of rap's most controversial moments.
The first episode features early N.W.A. mentor Alonzo Williams, and future episodes will offer interviews with original N.W.A. member Arabian Prince and Sharitha Knight, the ex-wife of Suge Knight. New episodes will be available every Thursday on iTunes, PodcastOne.com and the PodcastOne app.
"I'm very excited to produce Straight Outta ... with PodcastOne," said Savidge, who is one of five Compton collaborators nominated for an Oscar in the original screenplay category. "PodcastOne is the ideal platform to bring the fascinating — and largely untold — stories surrounding Straight Outta Compton and hip-hop culture to a larger audience."
Straight Outta ... joins The Adam Carolla Show, Radiolab and Loveline on the PodcastOne network. Said PodcastOne's Mike August: "We are very excited to have one of the Oscar-nominated writers of Straight Outta Compton in the person of Leigh Savidge joining our PodcastOne family with never-before-heard interviews with the artists, producers and promoters that both created and drive the hip-hop music business to this day."
