Strand Releasing acquires 'Lion's Den'

Multinational film premiered in Cannes

Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to "Lion's Den," a drama directed by Pablo Trapero.

The multinational film, which premiered in Cannes, charts the emotional journey of a college student incarcerated for murder who finds out that she's pregnant. Argentina has submitted the film as its official Oscar entry this year.

The film was a co-production between Brazil, Argentina and Korea and was shot in Buenos Aires. Youngjoo Suh and Trapero ("Born and Bred," "El Bonarense") produced. Walter Salles, director of "The Motorcycle Diaries," co-produced.

Negotiations were handled by Strand co-president Jon Gerrans and Suh, CEO of Fine Cut Ltd.

Strand, which has recently released "A Secret," "The Edge of Heaven" and "Before I Forget," plans to release "Lion's Den" in theaters next year.
