Studio Hamburg Takes 49 Percent Stake in Germany's Amalia Film
The Munich-based shingle produced German rom-com hit "The Break-Up Man" starring Matthias Schweighofer.
Studio Hamburg Produktion Gruppe has taken a 49 percent stake in Munich-based Amalia Film, which co-produced last year's German box-office hit The Break-Up Man.
Cornel Schafer will remain sole managing director of Amalia.
The Break-Up Man, directed by and starring German multitalent Matthias Schweighofer, was one of the biggest box-office successes of 2013 in Germany, earning more than $25 million (€18.5 million) in theatrical release here for 20th Century Fox. Amalia has a two-picture development deal in place with Fox International Productions, the studio's German feature production division. Amalia, set up in 2009, also produces for German TV.
Studio Hamburg Produktion is a subsidiary of Studio Hamburg, one of Europe's largest television production firms, and acts as a holding company for the group's production assets, which include several film and TV shingles as well as the equity stakes Studio Hamburg controls in other companies.
