Former StudioCanal Exec Harold van Lier to Join eOne's International Film Division

The distribution veteran will look to leverage financing from each of the Canadian distribution's foreign territories to increase movie acquisitions.

CANNES – Entertainment One has hired Harold van Lier as president of its international film division, starting in January, 2014. The position is based in London.

Van Lier will launch eOne Films International’s film financing arm to leverage coin secured from eOne territories, on top of acquiring worldwide rights.

He comes to eOne after serving as executive vp international distribution at Studiocanal.

Van Lier is filling a new position, but his arrival will follow the departure of Sally Caplan as managing director of eOne Films International.

eOne Films International has also bolstered its film acquisitions business by negotiating production financing from City National Bank and OneWest Bank.

The hire of Van Lier comes as eOne looks to increase its direct distribution efforts, with a focus especially on the U.K. market alongside Alex Hamilton, managing director, eOne Films U.K., and other international territories.

"Harold’s unparalleled understanding of the international business and his long-standing relationships with content creators will enhance eOne’s ability to access wide-appeal feature films in the earliest stages, acquire worldwide rights and secure distribution for our territories," said Patrice Théroux, who oversees eOne’s global film business, in a statement on Wednesday.
