StudioCanal, 'Three Billboards' Banner Blueprint Adapting Matt Haig's 'Midnight Library' for Film

StudioCanal and Blueprint Pictures, the U.K. production company behind Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and recent Jane Austen adaptation Emma, have reteamed to option the film rights to Matt Haig's Sunday Times bestseller The Midnight Library.

Haig's seventh adult novel and first since 2017's How to Stop Time (which StudioCanal also has under option) tells the story of Nora Seed, who finds herself in a library between life and death, with the chance to experience all the potential lives she could have lived. The Midnight Library has sold into 25 territories worldwide, and the audiobook is read by Carey Mulligan. Haig will executive produce the film, now in early development.

StudioCanal and Blueprint are currently in post-production on the adaption of Haig's A Boy Called Christmas, directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House) and starring Maggie Smith, Jim Broadbent, Toby Jones, Sally Hawkins and Kristen Wiig. Th film is due for release in Autumn 2021.

The deal for The Midnight Library was negotiated by Nick Marston and Katie Battcock at Curtis Brown. Matt is represented for his books by Clare Conville of C&W.
