STX Pushes 'Molly's Game' Release to Christmas Day

The Aaron Sorkin-directed drama will open opposite the P.T. Barnum musical 'The Greatest Showman.'

STXfilms is moving Molly's Game from a Thanksgiving to a Christmas release date.

The Aaron Sorkin-directed drama will have a limited release on Dec. 25 and then expand wide on Jan 5.

The Toronto International Film Festival stand-out, which has been receiving awards buzz, follows Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), a former Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade with players that included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and Michael Cera also star in the pic.

On the holiday, Molly's Games will be opening opposite the P.T. Barnum musical The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, and the as-yet untitled Paul Thomas Anderson film starring Daniel Day Lewis.
