Sundance Adds Indie Episodic Section, Festival Favorite Award
The 2018 fest will also see the return of a section dedicated to climate change.
Six months out from the first day of programming, the Sundance Film Festival has unveiled a few details about its 2018 fest, including the reveal of a new award and section.
The Festival Favorite award can be given to a feature film from any of the fest's sections and will be determined by audience ballots, similar to the longstanding Audience Awards, which are presented to films in each competition section.
From The Girlfriend Experience to Top of the Lake, more and more television programming has been popping in the Sundance lineup. The 2018 fest will fully embrace this trend, adding an Indie Episodic section for multi-installment projects, with an emphasis on independent productions.
The New Climate section will return for its second year. Programming will include features, documentaries, VR experiences and panels that deal with climate change and the environment.
The 2018 Sundance Film Festival is set to run Jan. 18-28 in Park City, Utah.
