Sundance: Amazon Nabs Ensemble Comedy 'Wiener-Dog'
Greta Gerwig, Kieran Culkin and Danny DeVito star in the Todd Solondz film.
The eccentric comedy Wiener-Dog has been acquired by Amazon in a seven-figure deal, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The pact calls for a significant theatrical release.
Wiener-Dog centers on the connections formed between a dachshund and a wide variety of people, including a concerned vet, a young boy, a film professor and an elderly woman.
The ensemble cast stars Greta Gerwig, Kieran Culkin, Danny DeVito, Ellen Burstyn, Julie Delpy and Zosia Mamet.
Todd Solondz, director of Welcome to the Dollhouse, wrote and helmed Wiener-Dog. Annapurna's Megan Ellison produced the project alongside Christine Vachon, with David Hinojosa acting as executive producer.
Amazon acquired the pic following its Jan. 22 premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
CAA repped the deal.
The film is Amazon's latest Sundance acquisition, following Kenneth Lonergan's buzzy drama Manchester by the Sea starring Casey Affleck and Jeff Feuerzeig's stranger-than-fiction documentary Author: The JT LeRoy Story.
