Sundance Channel signs Eurobird 9a deal
Rainbow Media-backed channel finalized first carriage dealLONDON -- Sundance Channel will broaden its European footprint later this month, hopping on board the Eurobird 9a in a deal that gives it potential distribution across Europe.
The Rainbow Media-backed channel signed its first carriage deal with UPC in Poland, giving a million cable homes access to such independent movie fare as "Mothers and Daughters" and "A Quiet Little Romance."
Sundance hopes the deal will mean that it can roll out on cable MSOs in Central Europe "at the flip of a switch."
"The launch on Eurobird 9a represents a significant move forward in our international expansion strategy for Sundance Channel," said Ed Carroll, Chief Operating Officer, Rainbow Entertainment Services. "We have been in the market less than a year and response to the network has been strong."
Sundance Channel, which is already transmitted in France and Belgium, also has distribution in Singapore and Korea as well as 39 million homes in the U.S.
