Lionsgate and Hulu have jointly acquired Jeff Baena's Joshy for North America after a world premiere at Sundance.

The indie comedy stars Thomas Middleditch, Adam Pally, Alex Ross Perry, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman and Jenny Slate. Joshy portrays Josh (Middleditch) treating what would have been his bachelor party as an opportunity to reconnect with his friends.

The pic will be released on Lionsgate’s specialty film distribution label, Lionsgate Premiere, before streaming exclusively on Hulu after a theatrical run. Joshy was produced by Liz Destro, Michael Zakin and Pally, and executive produced by Starstream’s Kim Leadford and Charles Bonan and Bow and Arrow Entertainment’s Michael Sherman and Matthew Perniciaro.

Writer-director Baena returned to Sundance with Joshy as a follow-up to 2014's Life After Beth. The film also stars Lisa Edelstein, Lauren Weedman, Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie and Paul Reiser.

"We’re proud to expand our multi-faceted relationship with Hulu that already includes four original television series, our partnership in Epix and licensing of our content to their platform,” Lionsgate president of worldwide television and digital distribution Jim Packer said Tuesday in a statement.

The deal for Joshy was negotiated by WME Global for StarStream, and by executive vp strategic and business development of worldwide home entertainment Geobert Abboud, executive vp acquisitions and co-productions Eda Kowan and acquisitions executive Lauren Freeman for Lionsgate.
