An original song from Diane Warren and Cher is included in the Evgeny Afineevsky-directed doc.

HBO has acquired U.S. TV rights to the documentary Cries From Syria.

The doc, which will have its world premiere this month at the Sundance Film Festival, comes from director Evgeny Afineevsky and is a look at the ongoing Syrian civil war, including hundreds of hours of war footage and testimonies from child protestors to revolution leaders.

Cries From Syria includes the original song "Prayers for This World" from Oscar-nominee Diane Warren, which was recorded by Cher with The West Los Angeles Children’s Choir.

Den Tolmor and Aaron I. Butler produced the doc, with David Dinerstein, Daniel Dubiecki, Lara Alameddine, Tomas Srovnal, Chamsy Sarkis and Bohdan Batruch acting as executive producers.

HBO will debut Cries From Syria on March 13.

The Syrian civil war is the subject of multiple recent nonfiction filmmaking projects, including two Oscar-shortlisted documentary shorts, White Helmets and Watani: My Homeland.
