The Sundance Institute and India's Mahindra Group have struck a multi-faceted agreement, which establishes the Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters, which will be an annual event in India.
The pact also includes a new Sundance Institute-Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award, which will be awarded annually at the Sundance Film Festival. The initiative covers a three-year period, benefiting 12 awardees.
Recipients of the first Sundance Institute-Mahindra Global Film Making Award will be announced Jan 25. Beginning next year, one out of the four directors chosen each year will be an Indian.
"Our intention is to nurture as well as hone the talents of an exciting new generation of Indian filmmakers. The guidance and knowhow of Sundance shall be extremely valuable to us in our initiatives," Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director of the Mahindra Group, said.
Scheduled for spring 2012, the inaugural Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab will provide an opportunity for six-to-eight filmmakers from India to develop their works under the guidance of creative advisors.
