Sundance Institute Names Directors Lab Participants
Robert Redford and Catherine Hardwicke are this year's creative advisers, along with Ira Sachs, Chiwetel Ejiofor and others.
Sundance Institute has selected eight first-time filmmakers for its Directors Lab.
Frances Bodomo, Annie Silverstein, Cesar Cervantes, Boots Riley, Kibwe Tavares, Eva Vives, Sandhya Suri and Pippa Bianco are aspiring filmmakers that will work with Sundance Institute Feature Film Program founding director Michelle Satter, Labs director Ilyse McKimmie and artistic director Gyula Gazdag, it was announced Friday.
During the Lab, the filmmakers will shoot and edit key scenes from their screenplays, working with creative advisers, professional actors and production crews.
This year's creative advisers include Sundance Film Festival founder/actor Robert Redford, director Catherine Hardwicke, NPR's Ira Sachs and actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, among others.
The Sundance Directors Lab has launched the careers of such filmmakers as Cary Fukunaga, Dee Rees and Marielle Heller. Several films supported by the Feature Film Program premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, including Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award-winner The Birth of a Nation.
The intensive is set to take place May 30-June 23 at the Sundance resort in Utah.
