Netflix has acquired worldwide rights, for more than $3 million, to Jim Strouse’s comedy The Incredible Jessica Jameswhich will have its world premiere as the closing-night film at the ongoing Sundance Film Festival.

The film, which Strouse wrote and directed, stars Jessica Williams (Girls, The Daily Show) as an aspiring New York playwright recovering from a breakup who goes on a date with a recently divorced man (Chris O'Dowd). Lakeith Stanfield and Noel Wells co-star.

The Incredible Jessica James was produced by Michael B. Clark and Alex Turtletaub of Beachside and executive produced by Williams and Kerri Hundley.

The film captured buyers’ interest and led to a heated bidding war following a buzzworthy volunteer’s screening on the first day of the festival.

Netflix will brand the movie as a Netflix Original and release it worldwide later this year.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of the producers by ICM Partners.
