'Sunshine,' 'Pirates,' 'Borat' roll 7s to top Key Art noms

Lionsgate leads studios for 2nd year

"Little Miss Sunshine," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and "Borat" scored seven nominations apiece to lead the field for The Hollywood Reporter's 36th annual Key Art Awards (HR 5/19). Lions-gate topped the studios with 22 noms, and Trailer Park led the agency category with 14.

It was the second consecutive year that Lionsgate earned the most studio nominations after posting 26 last year.

The Key Art Awards winners will be announced June 15 at the Beverly Hilton, with actor-comedian Rob Corddry serving as host.

For this year's awards, horror, animation and documentary film categories were added to the competition in addition to a best Web site design award and a special recognition Internet award.

Lionsgate topped the Key Art noms, with such films as "Crank," "Saw III," "Hard Candy" and "The U.S. vs. John Lennon" leading the way. The Walt Disney Co. and its Buena Vista Pictures distribution arm came in second among studios with 14 nominations. All but one of the noms were for "Pirates" and "Cars."

On the agency/vendor side, Trailer Park earned 12 nominations, while Craig Murray Prods. came in second with 11 noms followed by New Wave Creative with nine.

Among the noms for Fox Searchlight Pictures' "Sunshine" were comedy poster, special recognition print, comedy trailer and comedy TV spot. 20th Century Fox's "Borat" was nominated for comedy poster, teaser poster, outdoor advertising and comedy trailer, among others. And Buena Vista's "Pirates" made a particularly strong showing in the co-branded arena, with three noms in co-branded audiovisual and another two for co-branded print. "Pirates" also was nominated for special recognition print and action-adventure trailers.
