Super Channel has 'The Big C'

Laura Linney-starring Showtime dramedy to bow Sept. 1

TORONTO -- Canadian pay TV service Super Channel has picked up the Showtime dramedy "The Big C" for its fall schedule.

The Laura Linney-starrer will bow Sept. 1 north of the border, two weeks after its stateside bow on Showtime.

"The Big C" features Linney as a stilted suburban Minneapolis mother who reclaims her life by finding humor in her terminal cancer diagnosis.

Oliver Platt and Gabourey Sidibe also star in the U.S. cable series directed by Bill Condon.

"The Big C" has an echo in an earlier humorous cancer-themed Canadian mini-series "Terminal City," which portrayed an ill suburban mother hounded by reality TV producers, and which aired on the Sundance Channel stateside.
