'Survivor' gets dirty early, again

CBS has announced its fall launch dates, including an early premiere for the 17th edition of "Survivor" as well as a late debut for "CSI" and several other crime dramas.

The bulk of CBS' schedule will debut during the traditional September premiere week, or just after. But "Survivor: Gabon" — the series' first cycle to be shot in HD — will debut Sept. 18.

CBS' top-rated "CSI," the new Jerry Bruckheimer freshman drama "Eleventh Hour," the new series "The Ex List" and the returning dramas "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numbers" will premiere later than usual to accommodate the presidential election debates.

The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26, with a second debate featuring the vice presidential candidates slated for Thursday, Oct. 2.

To ensure that the run of some shows remain uninterrupted, CBS pushed the Friday block of "Whisperer," "Ex List" and "Numbers" one week to debut Oct. 3 and pushed Thursday crime dramas "CSI" and "Hour" three weeks to bow Oct. 9. (partialdiff)
