Gabrielle Union and Danny Glover also are starring in the Universal film.

Jessie Usher, who stars on TV series Survivor's Remorse and nabbed a lead role in the upcoming Independence Day sequel, has been cast in Universal's holiday film A Meyers Christmas.

The film — originally titled A Meyers Thanksgiving — will also star Gabrielle Union and Danny Glover. It centers on an estranged family who is brought together over Christmas for the first time since their mother's passing. The film is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 11, 2016.

The family comedy will be helmed by Baggage Claim writer-director David E. Talbert, who also wrote the script. Will Packer will produce through his Universal-based Will Packer Productions, while Union also is signed on to executive produce. Talbert is executive producing with Lyn Sisson-Talbert, Preston Holmes and Jeff Morrone. James F. Lopez of Will Packer Productions will also executive produce.

Kristin Lowe and Chloe Yellin will oversee A Meyers Christmas for the studio.

Usher's star has been rising fast since he began starring in the Lebron James-produced Starz TV series Survivor's Remorse as Cam Calloway, a basketball player who moves with his family to Atlanta after he signs a pro contract. The first season premiered Oct. 4, 2014, and the second season is now airing. Starz has already renewed the hit show for a third season.

Usher nabbed a big role when he was set to star in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence, which is now in post, as the son of Will Smith's character from the original film. Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe also star in the film, which is set for release on June 24, 2016.

Usher, whose other credits include TriStar football drama When the Game Stands Tall and the Cartoon Network's series Level Up, is repped by Paradigm.
