Harry Belafonte, Tessa Thompson, Alan Cumming and other stars also make an appearance in the 5-minute clip released days before the New York Democratic primary.

Spike Lee, a vocal Bernie Sanders supporter, decided to help the Senator from Vermont ahead of the New York Democratic primary in the best way he can by creating a five-minute campaign ad that stars a number of Hollywood stars.

The spot, entitled "Wake Up," begins with Lee acting as a town cryer, imploring the people of the "Da Republic of Brooklyn, New York" to wake up. Activist actors Harry Belafonte, Susan Sarandon, Alan Cumming, Tessa Thompson and Rosario Dawson, as well as such established political figures as Dr. Cornel West then make impassioned pleas on different issues, including equality, fairness and healthcare, central to Sanders' campaign.

Lee has made no secret of his support for Sanders and interviewed the Senator for The Hollywood Reporter's New York Issue.
